I while back on probably the old Forum we discussed Ladies wrestling and it turned out that quite a lot of random names were thrown into the mix. This left it very difficult to get a grasp of the situation.
I did a gallery http://www.wrestlingheritage.co.uk/apps/photos/album?albumid=16103356
and asked for comments to go against any of the girls so we could build up profiles potentially for an A-Z attempt.
It was a start but we lost the momentum.
Hack was saying to me that we really should try and push this along as it is a Niche piece of History and there is so much on the site these days it is a shame that this is missing from a fantastic Encyclopedia of British wrestling.
In order to concentrate the mind , I don't want to deal with 1930's stuff that never took off.
To keep a manageable history and a start I just want to look at the real pioneers which I define as 1960's only.
Wrestling pre 1970 with proof I have these names.
Mitzi Mueller Shirley Southern Judy Star Nancy Barton
Lolita Loren Yvonne Willets Cindy Stephens Pattie McGowen
Pauline Ash Kathy Kay Pauline Bell Gene Davies
Helen Bartelli Diane Rodrigues Anna Cortez Sue Britain
Lady Caroline
All these girls had real names and a story.
Can we add any girls to this list (60's only)
Can we shed any light.
Can anyone even pick a top 5 or a top 10.
That would be a start.
Yes, Mitzi's the only one I noticed.
And still remember ....
For what it's worth, the way she didn't smile added to the allure.
My exposure to Mitzi Mueller is a good argument against women's wrestling - far too distracting.
Blimey Ron. When I saw the title I thought you were kicking a man while he was down. Anglo Italian can't help the effect of cheap Italian wine. He prefers the red if any one cares.I prefer white if any one is offering. Anyway it seems you were being helpful and reminding us of a recent forum discussion and our recent chat. Admittedly neither myself or Anglo Italian were fans of female wrestlers, though Anglo did have a thing about Mitzi. I do see lots of respect for the females from the male wrestlers and they certainly made a contribution. A big contribution. They deserve recognition . Heritage is the place. But we do need the help of members.
