Recently viewing a tournament match from Bremen in 1979 I was reminded of the use of a gong instead of a bell to indicate the start of a round. Were gongs ever used in the UK?
I have been to shows that had bells hit with hammers , hand held school bells, bells that looked like fire bells , bells on stands with traditional rope attached to striker, but can't remember a gong, generally not as loud as a bell unless a decent size, more of a distraction at ringside, but may make a good weapon for the heels.
Microphone was placed near the gong to amplify the sound sometimes
No I don't remember a gong or anything else. I would imagine it having to be a very loud bong!
