GEORGES GORDIENKO was often Heralded as World Champion Calibre! Indeed I have
a Rankings List placing him as 3rd Best Heavyweight in the World and a genuine Contender!
WAS he that good? Was he BETTER than 3rd?-Was he BETTER than ROBINSON?
Did Anyone see these two Fight? Who saw GORDIENKO Wrestle? What was the Verdict?

Great addition Ron, thanks. That's one powerful man. I remember more "of Gordienko" than Gordienko, which is odd as I see he was on a televised show in Preston in 1970. I must have seen him on tv a few times but for some reason he didn't seem to stand out at the time. I've never heard anything but praise though.
Apart from Robinson, Gordienko was the best heavyweight I ever saw both live and on TV. I remember him totally demolishing Pat Roach in two rounds. I never saw him defeated but seem to recall him being held to a draw on TV by Steve Viedor.
This is very much how I remember George Gordienko
Mike Marino was always well in with the promoters.
Do we know who put that show on?
I bet when Gordienko came back for his visits in the 1960's , it would have been on his terms.
The man was a good pro and not ashamed to lose.

Looks to me as though they did not meet.
Gordienko was here in 1957 but I think he may have only worked for Joint and Assirati I think had gone on the wind down.
I saw George Gordienko on several occasions when he was at his peak in the 1960's and never saw him defeated, and that included opponents of the calibre of Albert Wall, Geoff Portz and Gwyn Davies. He was simply magnificent, but considering he turned professional around 1947, he say probably went on too long. He had everything- skill combined with being extremely tough and strong. An awesome individual.

I saw Gordienko on Tv many times and he was a treat. I am not so sure if he ever had to take a defeat in Britain , he was rated that high.

My own opinion , he was better than all our heavies except perhaps Robinson who actually came along about ten years later. By the time Billy had peaked , Gordienko was a veteran.
I was only a young boy when I saw him, but remember him as a powerfully built wrestler. Billy Robinson rated him highly, which tells you all you need to know.
He was a real wrestler, not just a show wrestler, and very tough.
