Hi Ost, I doubt if DM would have promoted at Ilford Town Hall the venue was too small and I was surprised to see that they had put on promotions at Ilford Baths. I liked the baths with the ring right in the centre of the hall. I look forward to your Romford collection.
Ost, I forgot to mention that one of the programmes in your Ilford Baths collection is not the baths. Frank Price only ran promotions at the baths in winter months one of your programmes is dated July 19, this was 1962 at Ilford Town Hall. I didn't like this venue because the seats were all on one level fortunately the hall was small, my father and I both being short in height sat in the back row where we could sit on the backs of our seats and still get a good view of the action.
The previous year,in the summer, Frank Price put on some promotions at Romford football ground, the local council put a stop to these events due to an health and safety issue with the lighting.
thanks for the information Tom! I did not notice that one. Do you know what year DM shows started being held at Ilford Town Hall? I have programmes from the 60's & 70's but they don't specify the location until the late 70's.
I do have some Premier programmes & posters to share from Romford Football Ground.
Clayton would have been a new boy and it's easy to imagine the ringsider hearing the name said like that, in the din.
Mystery solved.
Hack, do you think they really meant English Heavyweight Champion? Some people just say England, don't they, never using the words Britain or UK. Mostly people who live in England; or Americans. It could have been Max wording the poster....mind you, in wrestling terms, "English" hardly rolls off the tongue.
Anglo you mention Glen Thompson you will have noticed this wrestler was a substitute with his name hand written on the programme. I do recall an excellent bout at the baths between Clayton Thompson and Spencer Churchill, this may have been the bout.
I enjoyed the collection and there were some surprises . Ost you mention that when Dick Richards was on the bill so was Frank Price. Frank Price was the boss of Premier Promotions and Dick Richards was the regular referee at Ilford Baths when I attended the wrestling. I can only recall dick wrestling once and that was as a substitute.Frank Price often wrestled on his own promotions as the Southern Area Light heavyweight champion.
In a local newspaper article in November 1961 Frank Price said he had been running promotions at the baths for three years I don't know when he stopped.
I was surprised to see that Dale Martin promoted at the baths, I didn't see any advertising so I missed out. And who was the promoter in 1970?.
The Roundhouse Dagenham, I thought Paul Lincoln was the only promoter to put on wrestling there.
Tony De Marto who put on a show at a bingo hall within walking distance of Ilford Baths on the same night as The Monster was wrestling Johnny Peters.
I was surprised to see Dale Martin promoting at the Roundhouse in 1962 they then moved to the bigger Barking Assembly Hall.
I see Glen Thompson main eventing against Spencer Churchil. Anyone know about him?
I also spotted Dick Richards both as a referee and a wrestler. Billed from Australia. Possibly a stunt to exploit the famous boxer with a similar name? (Like Joe D'Orazio, Jack Dempsey ...) But he was resident ref, seemingly with resident MC Sid Algin. Makes me to think this was a niche venue with the pair managing to book whoever they wanted. Possibly a very rare venue that was used by various promoters? The Premier Promotions style was identical to DM's, and they were using DM stalwarts like Charlie Fisher and Tony Mancelli. Hard to fathom what was going on.
Thanks Hack, yes the independents are of interest to me also. Never seen anything else from Roydon's promotions. I might have a couple more items to add to each as I work my way through things, but moving on to other venues next.
What I can't work out is the promotional timelines for either the Iford Baths or the Dagenham Round House. It doesn't seem to be cut-and-dry.
Thanks Ost, this is a great collection. A mixture of Dale Martin and independents, so naturally my attention was drawn to the indies. Those Paul Lincoln bills show the creativty of the man. Usually a genuine visitor, two or three of his trusted experienced men and the rest of the bill made up of wrestlers who mostly became famous. Mongol Dakar was there though we have yet to find evidence of him actually turning up, and a 1960 Blimp, showing nothing in wrestling was new. A great collection,

Great recall after 59 years, Tom, thank you.

This gallery has thrown up some right oddities.

A very interesting collection Ost.
So Shirley never mastered the mightiest of Wales 😁😁
Some fascinating detail in these bills:
- Wild Man of Borneo defeating Don Steadman
- Mike Marino defeating Dr Death
- Harry Roth MCing for De'Marto Promotions - with all three Crabtrees, including undefeated Brian!
- Quasimodo as a sub!!! Looks like the Mongol never ever showed.
- Reg Trood defeating Black Mask ....☺
And also a couple of titles with belt and trophy:
- Shirley Crabtree as the heavyweight champion of England.
- Bob Kirkwood winning Most Popular Wrestler of the Year trophy.
That's the first I've seen of an English title.
Who is The Great Zarkoff with Servant, above?
Dick Richards again
Tom H mentioned Dick Richards once before, maybe he can help.

And as for Kalabadula ?????
There's a 1960 bill with six subs out of eight!
We came across Mongol Dakar some time back
https://heritagedocs.wixsite.com/talkwrestling/forum/memories-of-the-old-days/lincoln-s-giants
My guess was that he was
Alejandro Barrera (9 July 1921 - 14 September 2004) in Cuzco Peru. An actor and wrestler known as Dakar in Argentina.
The Picture of Mongol Dakar is fantastic....Intrigued
