Just to reiterate how nothing is straight forward or as it seems in the zany world of Professional Wrestling Combat Zone Wrestling from Philadelphia are coming to the UK.CZW started these extreme events over twenty years ago. Next week they will present two shows with Preston City Wrestling usually deemed as mainstream as you can get
I would have said CZW tried to emulate Japanese promotions such as FMW and their crazy matches such as exploding rings and barbed wire ring matches amongst others.
This promotion in the North East rather foolishly put this style of wrestling on a show with children present and adults who did not know what to expect.
There are a couple of over 18 promotions in England, RISE Wrestling in Leeds and Kumite in Derby who promote these extreme shows well for a "cult" crowd of fans.To use the rather annoying modern expression it is regarded as an "art form"
The promotions mentioned do not draw good sized crowds, as stated its a cult crowd , hardcore matches are rarely good or skillful especially when done by people who have little or no understanding of what they entail other than hitting each other with weapons that will draw blood. Genuine wrestling fans usually don't go near these type of events.
Thanks Powerlock. I did think if this was common we would have heard about it previously as quite a few have commented positively on today's wrestling.
The show took place in a village in County Durham, nobody of any worth or skill had anything to do with them even before this show. The roster are bunch of wannabe hardcore wrestlers, it's backyard wrestling at its worst. I don't think they've held another show since this event.
This is not the norm, occasionally you may get a bit of blood but usually by accident (a bloody nose, burst lip etc) I can't remember the last time I saw blood at a show and the lightbulb freaks are probably watching CZW tapes from the States as its the type of show they run to small audiences. as it doesn't appeal to 99% of today's wrestling fans.
Very impressed with some of the youger CZW wrestlers in Preston at the weekend.Moved on along way from the hardcore days

Every time a new article pops up, we see photos we have never seen before. And we are the supposed experts!
Where on earth do they get them all from?
