Dear The Main Mask and all HeritageOfUK Collectors, everyone who collects wrestling memorabilia, pics etc. please help to identify the trophy from this photo of J. Beaumont of Wigan, Lancs.
The belt has inscriptions on the front plate/buckle but this photo I am attaching is of very poor quality to identify it. Would highly appreciate your help!
A new tribute page for Jack Beaumont.
Died a couple of years before our time. Does anyone remember him?
Ron, re your Wryton Belt 1952 Hanley bill. I don't quite understand it. It says mwt championship of British Empire, the final, as if it was a final of the elimination series for a vacant title. And yet there's a Holder: Jack Beaumont (Belshaw)...could you please help me to understand what this means. Thanks.
Considering all of the above, now I wonder how good is a chance that the belt from the Jack Beaumont pic is the same WRYTON GOLD BELT which they used in 1953 as the world mwt title belt in Bawin v Hughes match.
Ruslan, I have Jack Beaumont's diary for 1951. All his matches were for promoters who were at that time members of the British Wrestling Promoters Association (Morrell, Relwyskow, Beresford, Wryton) who would form Joint Promotions the following year. At a glance it looks like the majority of his work was for Wryton Promotions.
Brilliant collection Ron, thanks so much for sharing, much appreciated. D. Mitchell light-heavy, N. Walsh cruiser/jr-hwt, Colbeck welter. Yes definitely all of them were JP/Morell's people/champs, Mitchell and Colbeck being his "compatriots" from West Riding of Yorkshire. And we have middleweight title in 1953 with Wryton Belt presented the winner, very, very interesting piece of information. In 1952 Jack Belshaw/Beaumont was still the world mwt championship holder. Back to my question which belt is he wearing on this my photo...?
Another interesting detail Baldwin v Armstrong for the original Mount Evans Belt...it was NOT the same kind of belts we have seen on the champs in the 1960s.
Mention here in 1953 of Wryton Gold Belt. Wryton did seem a bit sparse on Championship matches. Same year Norman Walsh on their show as Cruiserweight champ and he was a Morrell man.
And you mention light heavyweight and the champ again another Morrell man in Dennis Mitchell.
But only 2 weeks later Mitchell had survived his battle with Bartelli. Broadhurst Trophy also on this show.
Wryton were clearly recognising Morrell's men.
Here he is at New Brighton in September of 1951. Promoters were Wryton:
Arthur Belshaw was Jacks brother
In 1952 Beaumont was widely advertised as a world champ. here we have Grant in Dundee and the Peterborough bill is Wryton.
(Also quoting British Wrestling Federation)
He held the European Middleweight Title in 1952 possibly that belt
