When posting out today's newsletter we were saddened to hear of the death of a Heritage member that had passed us by,
South African wrestling historian Jop Fourie died 6th May, 2022. Jop attended his first wrestling match with his parents in Durban City Hall in 1949 when he was four years old. In later years he became a great fan which resulted in becoming a referee and making great friends with local and foreign wrestlers. During the years he took many photos He enjoyed the British and European scientific style of wrestling that was adopted by South African wrestlers.
Very sorry to read this. RIP Jop. A great historian of wrestling in his country.
A very keen fan and a great gentleman. I had an intimate online period with him ten years ago which was stimulating.
RIP dear Jop.
