First it describes wrestlers as big and fat.Even most of those mentioned were not big and fat.
It also states that this would bring wrestling to towns that would otherwise would not have great matches yet all of those mentioned Taunton,Weymouth,Swindon,Northampton,Weston super Mare and Guildford had regular shows for many years. Some of them still have shows in 2025!
None of my circus contacts knows anything about this, which leads me to believe that it didn't happen.
Apart from which, I submit that it's illogical.
There is no way that an evening of wrestling would come close to filling a 4,000 seat venue., even for the one night.
Then consider the cost of hiring both the tent and the ground. The wage bill for those who construct and dismantle the tent. The cost of moving from venue to venue.
And that's on top of paying the wrestlers and officials.
A fascinating topic and I can only speak for Guildford where I think back in the 1960's and 1970's a then conservative town would not have alllowed wrestling in a circus tent. I am certainly unable to recall such an event. Paul Lincoln promoted at the Civic Hall which opened in 1962 and the other venue at the Surrey location was the Plaza Ballroom.Dale Martin promoted at both locations and earlier Devereux at the Civic Hall.
This article is absurd

The cost of tickets would be unrealistic.
I rest my case!
As you may have realised, I have many contacts within the world of circus, including members of the Chipperfield family.
I shall check!
