Hi Bernard , I commented on this below. I am slightly reluctant to commit to this as Bert has a difficult trail to work back. Also , I am aware that Mike Hallinan , Bert's Official Biographer may have asked Bert about all this face to face. It seems to me though that Bert's early years may not have been explored.
Looking through all data online there is a confusion as to wether Bert had a brother or cousin called Joe Assirati. This is crucial really , because it reveals two possibilities of Assirati fathers.
Bert's grandparents on the Assirati side were genuine Italians , Barthomew and Albina Assirati. (maybe slight spelling variations).
They had many children , possibly even 18 with only six surviving childhood , but amongst them were brothers Joseph and Daniel. Both at one time or another were taxi drivers. Personally I have never seen reference to Bert's father being other than Pop Assirati (a Taxi driver ), so there lies one problem. Next Joseph marries Alice Laura Emma Page and has several children , among them a Daniel and Joe ( next generation ) but no Bert with them
The elder Daniel looks to have not married , but I can't be sure because of spelling variations. Here is the thing. Bert' mother was born Adelina Busandri ( genuine Italian again) and marries a Francesco Zaninette. She has children but becomes a widow and ends up living/lodging with Bert's grandma Albina who still had son Daniel with here at that time (1911)
At that time Adelina has two Zaninette Children and Bert Assirati.
By 1921 Adelina was calling herself Assirati and married , but no husband at home.
Bert is there with sisters Louise Zaninette , and Roma and Anita Assirati, address 102 Richmond Rd Islington.
So it looks to me like Daniel Assirati might be Bert's father and Bert grew up with siblings and cousins of which Joe Assirati looks like a cousin. ( mentioned in several articles.)
This brings me to how the names were allocated in the picture. I think Daniel Assirati was the guy at the back of the picture on the right next to the guy with glasses.
If this was Bert's father then he was age 51. If it was Bert's cousin then he was only 27.
Again looks to me like a man of 50 ( but they did look old in those days)
So have I found Bert's father.
I could of course be completely wrong and maybe Mike Hallinhan knows otherwise.
And for anyone who can't follow all that , my appologies. Sometimes genealogy is not easy.
Not sure of Daniel as I am not a hundred per cent on who Bert's father was.
Bert's mother was basically a young widow with children who then had Bert , I think outside of Marriage. Bert's father was a cab driver , again I think and I have two brothers Joe and Daniel Assirati who were cab drivers. Dad I think was known as Pop Assirati as far as I know , keeping it all pretty cloudy.
Looks like the two unidentified are two of the men from the back row of four. Mitchell Gill is on the left in the back row of four. Due to Ron's help, D Assirati is one of the two men at the right in the back row, either the larger gentleman or the one wearing glasses.
Lou Marco:
Are we calling 'him' Tiny or Lou? Any agreement or otherwise?
Looking at the photo, on the right is D Assirati.
Can anyone tell me if this is a relative of Bert please?
Put this picture on many years ago but worth another look. The year 1936.
Did you ever see them both in the same room?
