Down the Decades Professional Wrestling has Produced some Weird and Wonderful Characters
hasn't it?-The Gamut and Range has been Enormous-The Sinister GHOUL- The AFRICAN
Witchdoctor- Some of The Great MASKED Men!-But Let's not Forget Wrestling's Connections
to Circus Side Shows amongst others!-Whilst I don't know of ANY Bearded Lady Wrestlers-We have
had more than a Few 'Freakish' Characters!!
But how many of the Latter have actually been BANNED for 'Scaring' The Audience so much??
KATHLEEN LOOK-The Country's First Successful Lady Promoter for 10 Years- A Great Achievement
in itself in the 1930's for a Woman-Put On MAURICE TILLET-The Original ANGEL at BELLE VUE!
He was pretty Quickly D. Q. d-but so Disturbed the Crowd by his Hideous Appearance that she Refused
to Promote him again and Banned him from The KINGS HALL for good!
Just prior to this Promotional Posters came out Heralding his Arrival!-In the Late '30's!
Below I'm Holding My Very Rare Poster Announcing the 'Coming of this 'NEANDERTHAL'!!
Perhaps he made QUASIMODO Look 'Normal'??

"THE ANGEL-NOT in Caricature!.....Or IS it??". That's one of my favorite pictures of Maurice as a proper gentleman. It's one they also used on his gravestone.
bjh99 - Thanks for letting me know. It reminds of something someone shared with me a couple of years ago. He took a picture of it at the CAC in 2018. The poster might look familiar. The copy adrianpollard.shangri-la has shared here I think is #3 I have seen. Maybe 4. The colors make me think that Karl Pojello likely had them created and I've wanted to know if Karl's stamp is on the back. It is on two other hard card-stock posters I have.
Thefrenchangeldeathmask.
The scrap book was given away about 60 years ago and then scrapped I believe. Sorry can't help.
Great stuff, Main Mask!
adrianpollard.shangri-la - I have been looking for that exact poster for quite some time. If you ever come up with a “I don’t want to sell it price” please let me know!! You mentioned the poster being from the 1930’s.
I’m curious why you might place it during the late 30’s.
My initial thought would have been from the early 40's after Harvard Anthropology measured Maurice and "declared him" the closest living physical specimen to Neanderthal. I am curious if the "throwback" image started back in Europe. Apologies for coveting the poster but I collect only on Maurice & his manager Karl Pojello.
bjh99 – “Jack must have really liked this fellow because the front half of this book was filled with Maurice Tillet photos and articles.”. Please post pictures or details. I’d be grateful!!
Hack – Thanks for mentioning my blog-site
RON HISTORYO....Time Cop – Good to see you posting here Sir!!
Please feel free to join me on my Facebook tribute page to Maurice. I share every new thing I find on Maurice or Karl on that site: https://www.facebook.com/maurice.tillet.10
Thanks for sharing!!
TOM - The guy behind the profile.

A picture of Boratti is very much on my list.
He and Wild Tarzan are mysteries.
I have previously written about Jack Cunningham from Archway giving me a scrapbook of wrestling cuttings and pictures.
Well,Jack must have really liked this fellow because the front half of this book was filled with Maurice Tillet photos and articles.
I don't know how many times The Angel came to London, but the number must have been considerable.Either that or the papers loved writing news of him.
Kathleen Look and Oakeley seemed forever linked. In his book Oakeley says he sent Look to Belle Vue for the role of promoter because the Belle Vue manager didn't like him (I'm only going off memory). Throughout his book there it is a suggested she works for him. In that case Oakeley was controlling Belle Vue and the Free Trades Hall.
You had to be thick skinned in those days.
Not sure if they had invented political correctness.
Think the Free Trade Hall bills were Oakeley.
By the way Reginsky was born in the UK. His father was Polish and mother German.

You know I love that art MM , those were great times.
The Angel also packed out the Free Trade Hall that year fighting Ray St Bernard and here is a feel for the advertising with Reginsky.
He's a 'NEANDERTHAL' Man!!....
