Great stuff MM, thank you very much for sharing these
Thank you MM. That was confusing wasn't it?
As you say titles are normally shown below the wrestler.
Sir Henry Spurrier, chairman of Leyland Motors in its heyday used to say “on-costs start south of Manchester”, Hack, and it’s true!
Some cracking bills there from Main Mask.
Hanley's wrestling had a northern feel with a Mancunian promoter. And whenever I visit the town itself it does have a feeling of going back oop north.
But having said that as a fellow Lancastrian shame on you Main Mask. Living in Manchester you should know that anywhere south of your home city is down south,
Second public warning.
Nice snippets indeed, Main Mask. That final bill showed what could be done with minimal match-making thought: a south-v-north tournament. No matter that Yearsley was billed as Welsh most of the time.
A few years ago I tried to find out where Hanley was as it didn't appear on my maps. Saxonwolf and others set me straight. Seems to be a peculiarity, one of five sectors of Stoke. However, I am aghast to see you claiming it as a NORTHERN venue. Public Waring, Main Mask!!!
Even the tournament was held on neutral ground in the Midlands.
Interesting on the Tibur bill they claim it to be the best bill ever at the venue. We'd need to see the year, but makes you wonder whether Hanley regulars Bartelli and Nagasaki would agree....?
I put a post on this thread earlier, but it has disappeared.
My query was...... Did Judo Al Hayes ever hold the British Lightheavyweight title as shown on one of these bills?
