Remember vividly at Liverpool Stadium around 1975/76 one of Max's tournaments, a very big heavyweight being unmasked as referee Ken Lazenby. What a shock! Anyone experience something similar?
As the eighties progressed into the nineties it became a regular thing when promoters were short of wrestlers to present a full card to get a wrestler who had appeared earlier in the evening to reappear wearing a mask.Once at Wolves Civic Hall Barry Douglas was in the opening match of the night and also the main event with a mask. Most of the crowd were shouting its Barry Douglas!.No shock that night
No I don't Romeo. Unmaskings I'm aware of (apart from Howes v Naggers and the 1980s Naggers saga) are the result of amask v mask match. Ken Lazenby was the referee of that Nagasaki-Howes match. Around 1975/6 this unexpected unmasking would have been a surprise but moreso with it being Ken Lazenby. I can't see any record of Lazenby as a wrestler.
Hi Hack.I imagine they were short of numbers for that tournament that he was probably a very last minute inclusion.I also never seen him wrestle again.
Matey Dave asks if you missed him the?
I seem to recall Lazenby was unmasked when he had appeared as The Blob.
