Few MASKED Wrestlers really stood out in Professional Wrestling!
In MEXICO-probably 90%+ of Mat Men wear Masks-which for me devalues the HOOD!
Also Rules are different and change regarding the Defeat of the Man wearing the BONNET!
Here when a Masked Wrestler lost he had to Unmask latterly ANY kind of LOSS BUT in the
1950's he had to 'lose by 2 Straight Falls! Elsewhere like AMERICA-Defeat didn't result in
losing the Mask unless stipulated-e.g.Mask vs. Mask Contests! So to stand out he had to be
very good indeed!-One such AMERICAN Wrestler was THE PATRIOT!
Clad in Red,White and Blue and carrying the Stars and Stripes he was very Popular with
the Fans and a Target for other Top Heavies!-A NORTH AMERICAN Heavyweight Champion
for GLOBAL WRESTLING FEDERATION initially he went on to Fight BRET HART for the
WWF (World) Heavyweight Title!
His Finisher was the PATRIOT MISSILE-a Flying Shoulder Block 'launched' from the Top
Turnbuckle which was usually fatal for the Opponent!-Quick and Agile and superbly muscled
he was a Fan Favourite both in American Football-under his Alter-Ego and in the Wrestling
Ring and had a fairly long Run!-THE PATRIOT had everything going for him!
Photos to follow!
MAIN MASK
Sorry Adrian, can't agree with your statement in the first post.
"In the 1950's had to lose by 2 straight falls".
Sorry not true for the JP bills anyway.
He looked great and they built him up with a great run in WWF , but he had to sell to Brett Hart's Sharpshooter. Remember those days well.
He was being built up for a headline run when he got s very bad tricep injury from which he never fully recovered and left WWF in 1998 . He was called Del Wilkes, there was other wrestlers who donned the mask including Tom Brandi but the character never achieved the heights that Del Wilkes reached
He wrestled over here for both WCW and WWF.
