Continuing my Billy Joyce deep dive, I need some help identifying "Bullet Bob" headlining this Welsh card from May 8 1948:
My first guess was it might be Billy Joyce based on the fact he did wrestle frequently for Dale Martin Promotions under his real name of Bob Robinson soon after in 1950. I've attached a few examples of this below and the description of him being a light heavyweight from Lancashire/Wigan seems like a giveaway. January 5 1950 on the left, January 20 1950 on the right:
Saxonwolf raised the possibility that Bullet Bob might be Tiger Joe Robinson who had returned to the UK from South Africa to wrestle in 1948. Now I want to see if we can clear this up one way or another. As always, thanks in advance for all the help you knowledgeable folks provide. Ethan
On the Boxing bill Al Hutt is described as Flyweight Champion of Burma.Another site tells us that despite him living in Liverpool he was born in Mandalay!
Here is one to stretch us all Ethan.
Milo was Light Heavy champ so a mistake on this bill.
But is Robert Robinson our Billy Joyce.
I think it is.
And I bet he traveled down with Jack Dempsey from Wigan.
I agree with Ron. Tiger Joe came over primarily for the C&W Games and then turned pro, so this might be a bit too early. Apart from that the likelihood of Silcock and Bob Robinson travelling down from Wigan is much more likely than Silcock working with Tiger Joe.
I think if I had to force an opinion that this would be Billy Joyce. Bob Silcock is often forgotten as a third man who did a lot of work behind the scenes like Riley and Atherton to provide wrestlers from the Wigan stable. He is far more likely to have traveled down over to Wales with fellow Wiganer Bob Robinson. They both might have been going over to the Isle of Man , to which Silcock made a big contribution often doubling as the Blue Mask.
Where they came from , they just made it up as they went along.
Here is an Isle of Man example a couple of years before. (1946)
Bob Robinson from Wales , well it would not do to have too many from Wigan would it. He would have travelled with Jack Alker for sure.
Anglesey was unusual but of course a stop off for the Isle of Man which was pretty big.
