"Marty Jones K.oed John Quinn" for the World Mid heavyweight title.
Did anyone else find this strange? I don't know much about these later years, but Quinn never looked less than a full heavyweight to me.
Did he really lose a lot of weight?
Hi Peter. Doesn't that mean that both wrestlers were over the Mid Heavy limit?
Another way of looking at this is that by April 1988 Jones had put on a considerable amount of weight from his heyday
It should have just been billed as a catchweight challenge bout.
Yes,. but looking at him ,with his height, shows how nonsensical this was.
I was one of the people a while ago who helped to prove that wrestlers did not often get weighed.
A post last year established that Professional Wrestlers were rarely if ever weighed. Therefore by April 1988 Quinn could weigh whatever the promoter said he weighed.
This is another one that I believe we have touched on in the past as having actually happened, but was most definitely “stretching the bounds of credibility“. There was a school of thought that you could have gotten Quinn to Mid-Heavyweight by cutting one of his legs off…..
Kent Walton announced John Quinn as six feet five tall and weighing twenty one stone and two pounds. To be classed as as a mid heavyweight a wrestler must weigh between fourteen stone two pounds and fourteen stone thirteen pounds.
Definitely an odd one Bernard. I only recall Quinn as a heavyweight. But we know that such technicalities didn't worry them
