Years ago I found abundant wrestling in Isle of Man , Isle of Wight , and all over Ireland North and South.
Not conquered the Channel Islands yet , but came across one I had not thought about. Very late in the day and looks like Brian Dixon thought it was worth a punt.
Venue only built in 1985 and was Shetlands biggest venue. Would hold several hundred people easily for spectating events.
When I visited three years ago I my flight was delayed overnight because of mist and fog-in July!
They did a show in 1994 on a stormy night. People had come across from some of the smaller islands on the ferries. They could not get home that night.
It was the end of the "Golden Era before it arrived in Shetland.Considering the population of Lerwick was around 7,000 at the time the 1986 event attracted over 15% of the population.Surely a record for any other town or city in the rest of the UK
Just adding that the attendance for the 1986 show was 1100 and there had been a show in May 1985 , I think soon after the centre was opened with a decent gate. Very much indicating that once a year was a special effort.
As late as 1998 there was a show with Pat Roach and Skull Murphy but a small attendance of only 200

That's an amazing find Ron. Hard to believe it was economically viable. I wonder if the tourist board, government or local businesses man put up money for the shows.
