Thick fog resulted in a disappointingly small crowd and curtailed wrestling programme at the Leeds National Sporting Club, an event raising money for the Leeds Infirmary Appeal Fund. With the Red Devil and Johnfesson failing to appear only two matches went ahead, Walt Stringer drew with Dick Dunne and Harold Angus defeated George Bryan by two falls to none. Referee was Douglas Clark.
I think it would have been fascinating to see the Peter Rann Joe Murphy contest on the Eastbourne bill. There always appeared to be some "needle" between this pair which was a little more than role playing. Perhaps not surprising considering Rann's reputation.
Anglo Italian's comments about the Wildman are pertinent but not confined to DM and the Royal Albert Hall. Joint Promotions just didn't know what to do with this monster they picked up from the opposition as little more than a plaything, as shown in his 2-0 defeat at the hands of Peter Preston. When told of that result on a Saturday afternoon he should have said he was popping out for a walk and not returned until 5.30, after the football results,
You can just sense there the doubts Dale Martin had about the Wild Man from Borneo. He was made a special feature and probably given his choice of absolute best opponent - of course old buddy and ultra-reliable Bob Kirkwood.
And Bruno has a thing going with Shozo in relation to his trip to Japan, where they wrestled each other.

Wrestling overseas today, our own Tony St. Clair and our own Steve Wright, fought to a draw, in Bremen, Germany, on this day in 1979.
On our TV screens, on this day in 1965: -
Adrian Street (1) v Brian Maxine (1)
George Drake v Dennis Mitchell
We have disagreed about the expression BOTTOM OF THE BILL: for me it remains the main support.
