Wrestling overseas today, Dynamite Kid and Davey Boy Smith defeated Greg Valentine and Brutus Beefcake, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA, on this day in 1986.
On our TV screens, on this day in 1976:-
Catchweight: Johnny Kwango (Lagos, West Africa) (FF) v Sid Cooper (Queensbury, Yorkshire) (S)
Heavyweight: Giant Haystacks, 31 stone giant (KO) v Pete Roberts (Camberwell) (F)
You have to wonder if he was appearing in some of the films that were produce locally ( this happened a lot during the 1920s and 1930s) had local distribution then disappeared without trace. That or the uncredited extra seem the only options so far.
OK lads, I think I can have a guess at this, but would need to see a picture of Joe Batten, and whether his nick name, that Main Mask mentions, "Angel Face", is because he was a good looking lad or if he has a beaten up face.
If he is a good looking lad, then it could be this guy
The actor is called John Batten, and appeared in many films from the 1920's to 1940's. Originally from New Zealand but ended up here as a young man and lived here for the rest of his life.
It's a long time ago but I think that on one of my many excursions into Soho I wandered into his pub, The Helvetia, and there were framed photos of him around the walls from his wrestling days. I know that doesn't help the question in hand much.
Our local lad working overseas today is Bert Assirati, who was wrestling in Antwerp, Belgium, on this day in 1950, going to a time limit draw with Frank Sexton.

Ha ha, no not at all!
He must have been an uncredited extra then, if he appeared in a lot of films, because I can't find any trace of him in any film, so far.
I don't think its the same guy do you?

Is Joe Batten the wrestling name of John Batten?
