I don't think so Bernard. Kellet was hugely popular and successful in terms of wins. However was respected and successful in terms of wins. More casual fans, and armchair fans would expect a Kellet win. Ringside fans and those who followed wrestling would expect a hard match but certainly not be surprised with a Howes win. He was European midheavyweight champion.
Williami Little in charge in Carlisle, how intriguing. The publicity is riddled with mistakes - champion of Ireland, Jim Dempsey. Very surprising to see RBC taking top billing over the heavyweight champion in 1957 ... I imagine he must have been sold as expensive, and William Little decided he should go top.
McManus probably creamed off RBC's excess charge, without his knowledge!
In amongst all the great names, local boy Mike Willies gets in on the action.
Certainly one for the other thread, so I'll transplant him now.
Here's a great tag match and quite fascinating to see Gunga Singh. Can this be a sign that in Dale Martin's eyes the Wild Man of Borneo had run his course, but we'll still give the lad some work?
Johnny Saint and Zoltan Boscik, wrestling in France, on this day.
Wrestling overseas today, Mal Kirk defeated Frank Butcher, in Vancouver, Canada, on this day in 1974.
On our TV screens, on this day in 1970:-
Steve Veidor v Albert Wall (W)
Steve Wright (1) v Alan Wood (1)
(Mid week, late night TV show)

Re. Sax's first post on here.
Bill Howes beat Les Kellett.
Would that be expected or a shock in 1967?
13 May 1960
Jack Dempsey beat Alan Colbeck in Bradford to keep the British welterweight championship.
Great bill The Ost with my old friends Ian St. John vs. Andreas (Svacick this time). and this being for the European lightweight title!
Interesting is the fact that no mention of any Countries where they were coming from!
Cheers
Forgot to post this one; one of the later Svasick vs St John encounters, 1976 for Brian Dixon:

Mick a long way from home
One for our own Sheffield boy SAX

He was to disapear from JP rings soon after this.
It's another two-for-one, making a few quid overseas today, as our lad Don Vines beat our lad Jim Hussey, in Karlsruhe, Germany, on this day in 1971.
On our TV screens, on this in 1967: -
Gwynn Davies (Wales) (DQ) v Jim Hussey (Manchester)
Bill Howes (Bristol) (W) v. Les Kellett (Bradford)
Johnny Eagles (Manchester) v. Monty Swan (Ellesmere Port) (W)
