December 15th was not the first time the new style of wrestling had been staged in Britain, with exhibition matches having taken place some weeks earlier. Matches between Atholl Oakeley and Bill Garnon, and Georges Modrich and George Boganski were staged at the London Sports Club on 13th November, 1930, in a show incorporating both boxing and wrestling.
On our TV screens, from Bradford, on this day in 1971:-
Abe Ginsberg v Masambula (W)
Jackie Pallo (KO) v Zolton Boscik
Kendo Nagasaki (RSF) v Billy Howes
13 November 1933
At the Brunswick Stadium in Leeds British heavyweight champion claimant Douglas Clark stepped into the ring as that other British heavyweight champion claimant, Atholl Oakeley, was about to fight. Clark challenged Oakeley to a fight with £100 sidestakes and said he would wrestle Karl Pojello on the same night also with £100 sidestakes.
Wrestling overseas today, two of our lads in action, as big Mal Kirk defeated Dave Morgan, in Dortmund, Germany, on this day in 1977.
On our TV screens, on this day in 1965: -
Eric Leiderman (KO) v Honeyboy Zimba
Enrique Edo Juan v Roy St Clair (DKO)
13 November 1964
Kendo Nagasaki’s first professional match, against Jim Hussey in Willenhall.
Even Chick Purvey KO Bert Royal
Erm, yes, and Deakin over DaSilva. Makes you wonder.
Bert Nuttall getting a win over Ernie Baldwin is a surprise
George Clark was one of Scotland's great heroes and it's a good bill at a great venue.
Meanwhile in 1972 Kendo was still in Stampede. Never found out if this bill with Gordienko went ahead.
