Thanks bkendo1 for that news. You say a couple of years, but do you know if it was 2020 or the actual year so he can be included in our Final Count listing.
hack ray is indeed still with us ,however sadly Jack died suddenly a couple of years ago,Jack was badly underused by Joint mainly due to his overseas tours.Jacks profile and rep were far higher abroad.
That's a splendid Belle Vue bill Ron. A rarity with the lighter men topping the bill over the heavies - using the championship match as credibility. There was a return match on 11th June wiith Beaumont defending the title, so presumably he won this.
I have found only a dozen UK matches for Gasparrini, monthly up to December, 1955, and oddly all of them at Belle Vue. Opponents included John Foley, Milio Popocopolis, Chic Linton and Jack Doyle.
Ray Steele and Jack Rowlands both celebrate their birthdays today, I think they are both still with us.
What on earth was prompting Dale Martin to dilute Logan to the "Southern" Iron Man? Protests from the North? Very odd.
Today was also the last BBC wrestling show:
A shame they couldn't be bothered specifying the other two bouts!
As discussed, Kwango was very limited in the seventies but Bobby Barnes was an ideal opponent who could make it all work.
Main Mask: I agree there were stacks of "charity" shows . Every Seymour Hall bill for a start. Do you believe the wrestlers appeared for nothing or for reduced fees?
The charity show seems to have been a Dale Martin concept, not seen elsewhere much. Probably centred around Mike Judd's own concept of charity beginning at home.
If Harry Brooks was wrestling La Masque Rouge, would it have been an early case of an intergender match? Or just a promoter whose French grammar needed a bit of a polish. My French is very poor. For years I thought coup de grace was French for lawnmower.
Wrestling overseas, on this day in history, our own Pete Roberts beat long running globe trotter, Indio Guajaro, in Cologne, Germany, on this day in 1977.

I remember successfully arguing to be allowed to stop up for the BBC wrestling show.
The world could have changed.
But didn't.
Today is also the anniversary of the death of the Great Marcus in 2007.

One for George Passalaris:
Wow! A Jean Ferre autograph! That's gold dust.

My only visit to Shoreditch Town Hall(1969)
Jean Ferre/Andre the Giant was introduced to the crowd and I managed to get his Autograph.
