Did ASSIRATI Actually Turn Up at BATH??- This is Almost MAY!- and I Thought BERT
Retired from the Ring in 1960??
I don't know. I have a few more matches following that, one for Dales against Cornelius and then the independents. It doesn't really matter whether he turned up, he wasn't Joint's heavyweight champion.
Hi Bernard, I think it means that Hassan Ali Bey won because Jim Hussey was disqualified. Although looking at my 2021 post, I don't see this match listed? (unless I am missing something)
Let's just go back to The Ost's Dale Martin show in Bath.
What's going on here?
29th April, 1960 and we have a Joint Promotion member using Bert Assirati (who a few days earlier and a few days later was on independent bills) billed as British and European heavyweight champion.
What? Billy Joyce was Joint Promotions champion at that time.
In fact, on that same night he was defending his title against Billy Robinson
And just two weeks earlier Dale Martin had employed the British heavyweight champion, and look who it is
Yes, Main Mask, The Ost's Bath is absolutely to die for. Davies v Garfield, lest we forget, is also Garfield's final tv bout, in 1965, where we accept he insulted Kent and was never to be screened again.
Certainly agree with Hack that Saxonwolf's daily input is fascinating, and no doubt time-consuming. Many thanks.
What I notice, MM, in Liverpool, is that no mention of race is made, where it could be. The Irish team was a bit higgledy-piggledy and didn't quite complete. Was this an early sign of political correctness?
Wrestling overseas today, Jim Hussey was on the losing end in a match against Hawaiian Wrestlers, Bolo Hakawa, in Bordeaux, France, on this day in 1952.
Thanks Sax. That's what I thought, but I would normally put the DQ after Jim.
This is from 2nd post on this thread dated 28 April 2021.

Hi Sax. Just re-reading some old posts on this thread.
On April 28 2021, you posted Hassan Ali Bey (DQ) v Jim Hussey.
Does this mean that Hassan won on a DQ?
If not that is a very unusual result for me. I would bet that Jim was the one who got DQ ed.
The same night in 1937
Wrestling overseas today, George Gordienko defeated Mal Kirk, in Vancouver, Canada, on this day in 1974.
On our TV screens, on this day in 1970:-
Brian Maxine v Clay Thomson (DQ) (late night, midweek TV show)

BTW, The Ost's "to die for" Bath also includes the bout rated as the best ever wrestling photo.
Not to mention Assirati when he .... simply shouldn't be.
Mind-boggling bill.
Eleven fifties bob was a stiff price in the provinces, but the shillings weren't, aren't, in short supply there.

1960, RIP John Da Silva:
Hassan versus Jumping Jim sounds fun.
I do enjoy your daily offerings Saxo.

On our TV screens, on this day in 1961: -
