In one of the earliest Sunday newspaper investigations into the legitimacy of professional wrestling the Sunday Dispatch reporter Jacqueline Mackenzie asked "Is wrestling fake?" As would be expected she found it hard to get a straight answer. There was an admission that not everything was genuine. Francis St Clair Gregory told of the time he had been reprimanded by a referee in Belgium for grimacing as if he was in pain when his opponent got a hold on him. One man did talk. He was former boxer and wrestler Jack Doyle. Doyle told the reporter that the result of all his wrestling matches were pre-planned and explained how blood could be produced on demand. By the end of the piece the reporter did have a grudging admiration for the men she had met.
Rather like New York, this bill was so good that you printed it twice. I notice that December 2nd was a Tuesday. For those who keep records, I wonder if Morrell and Beresford had a promotion at Nottingham Ice Rink on December 1st that year. When they promoted Kidd, Robbins or Ross at The Ice Rink they normally put them on somewhere the day before or day after.
Hi Graham, Hull was usualy on a tuesday and when Leeds Town Hall changed from its years of having shows on a Monday to a tuesday because of renovations to the hall, Hull changed to a Monday untill the work at Leeds was over. Andy Robbins and George Kidd was billed at Hull because on Monday they were on at Leeds as itwas a T.V. show were booked especiously for the occasion.

Thank you MM.
With hindsight do any of you doubt the descriptions of all these holds that Shirley was praised for using.
He certainly did not have them when I saw him, but that was 10 years earlier, so he must have learned a bit by 1961.
Could someone please tell me the date of that first article on Shirley Crabtree?
A very early sighting of Vic Faulkner.

There are two of them, and this would be the one from Newcastle.
We are here to share and help each other. I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one who would like to learn some of your knowledge about masked men.
As I always ask about masked wrestlers , on the poster of 2-12-1939 , who was Blue Mask ?
