Ninety years ago today the new style of wrestling, what became known as All-In, should have been launched in Britain. Boxing promoter Jeff Dickson had to postpone the planned show when work permits for visiting overseas wrestlers failed to materalise. The new rules were eventually introduced in December.
From PWInsider.com:
1973 - The AWA ran Chicago, Illinois at the International Amphitheatre, featuring:
-AWA World Tag Team champions Nick Bockwinkel & Ray Stevens defeated Billy Robinson & Red Bastien after Bastien was counted out. -Geoff Portz defeated Tony Rocco.
Halloween seems to be lasting for ages on here.
Ooops, my date above. I redeem myself with this great feud, or touring routine, that played out everywhere 1964 to 1968. I'd love to have seen Garfield provoking ringside-seaters as he mauled poor youthful Viedor.
Garfield was still a star of televsion!
(I thought I'd posted this? Disappeared. Saxonwolf never has these problems when he's travelling...)
A new style of wrestling that newspapers claimed permitted everything except manslaughter was put on hold when the planned introduction of American rules wrestling by boxing promoter Jeff Dickson was postponed. Whilst there were reports this was due to failure to acquire work permits for some taking part there were other reports that Dickson pulled out to protect his reputation as a boxing promoter following adverse reaction from the press.
Daily Mirror reporter Trevor Wignall indicated there were more than twenty promoters around the country who were keen to promote the new style of wrestling. Their plans were being held up due to
a reluctance by the Home Office to grant work permits;
difficulties in renting halls;
a shortage of British wrestlers willing to perform under the new rules.
Furthermore, it was said that the styles of the Catch-as-catch-Can, Cumberland and Westmorland, and Cornish provided good sporting contests in contrast to the proposed revised style that no English wrestler of repute would accept.

Thanks Ost. I hope you've told Dave he is still remembered on Wrestling Heritage.
Yes, agree it's good to see Dave Cameron on this bill. Does anyone know how he is? There was a message a couple of years back that he was none too well.
