Five years after the introduction of the Lord Mountevans rules another part of the Mountevans plan was beginning to take shape with contests for the Lord Mountevans championship. Although not quite a formal, legal group (that was to come two months later) members of Joint Promotions were already working co-operatively to unify champion claimants in their halls. On 3rd November Ernest Baldwin defeated Dave Armstrong in Middlesbrough to become the first Lord Mountevans British Heavyweight champion
The Heywood Advertiser of 18th January, 1963, carried a story of the opening of a new cafe, 3 York Street. It was owned by former Manchester City goalkeeper, John Savage.
Taverne had been here in the 1950s. Of course it could have been him, but I'm sceptical, mainly because I'm always sceptical. It's easy to put the name King Kong on the bill and pull in a big fella for the night. If it was King Kong Taverne I think they woud cash in on the name.
We've git Bill Ogden (as Joe Savoldie) and John Hall on there, so George Goldie and Jack Santos are missing. One of them could well have been the Masked Houdini.

Hi Hack, thanks for reply regarding King Kong Taverne. It was just a thought on my part . Cheers, Ian.
Looks like progress.

Wonder who this King Kong was and the Masked Houdini.
Johnny Saint winning the World lightweight title after George Kidd retired. How was the Albert Hall compared to Wryton Stadium?
