I used Bill many times during my eleven years as a wrestling promoter. I used him as Bill Clarke and, in The Lincolnshire Poachers combination, with his "brother" Rick Clarke (Rick Wiseman). Obviously I used him as King Kendo. He had a very smart red outfit with matching mask and leotard and, as such, I billed him as Doctor Blood. The last time I promoted him was in 1987 on my last ever show (I think. I doubt I'll return to it now) when American gridiron was all the rage over here. I hired an American football jersey and helmet from TV comedian Jackie Carlton's fancy dress shop in Manchester and billed him as Meat Cleaver Kowalski.
This could have been one of Bill Clarke's men; they went under a variety of names. More likely, though, to be "Irish" Pat Barrett who was doing a few jobs for Dixon around this time.
Thanks for that. I was on the same show as Bill in Boston in 1993. He was using his real name locally and was questioning the credentials of one of the T.V. Gladiators.
I look at SaxonWolf's television offerings each day and often have a little drool. Such is the case today. What should have been a classic match between Riley and Taylor, and then two big heavies that I always enjoyed.
But I wonder is our excitement caused by the passage of time and what we have learned since? Do the rose coloured glasses work their magic? Would I have been as excited when I saw this billing in the TV Times over 50 years ago?
We have another two-for-the-price-of-one today, with our lads wrestling overseas, as Danny Lynch beat Hans Streiger, in Berlin, Germany, on this day in 1978.
Wrestling overseas today, Steve Casey (son of Wild Angus), defeated Nick Kiniski in Fort Worth, Texas, USA, on this day in 1985.
On our TV screens, on this day in 1972:-
Mick McManus (1) v Jeff Kaye (0)
Les Kellett (1) v Steve Logan (0)
The Borg Twins (1) v Adrian Street/Bobby Barnes (Hells Angels) (1)

I don't remember Bonecrusher Barrett. Any clues?
I recall Kumali winning this bout 2-1.
