In what is today Trafford , I lived on the Lancashire side of the Mersey and never went to Sale or Altrincham.
The first I knew about Stamford Hall was going through the old newspapers about seven years ago. I am annoyed I missed it because I could have gone there a lot earlier than Belle Vue. My dad was great and while at school he was prepared to drop me and my mate off at Belle Vue at tea time and pick us up late after the Fair and the Wrestling. Altrincham , would have been no problem for him and even a couple of Buses a possibility. My mate was not too far even from Chester Road so we could have done it.
Wonder if you know that The Drill hall in Hale came before the Stamford Hall.
Graham's the one who should be writing a book! He's been everywhere and manages to share interesting stories with us every day on these threads. Great stuff, keep 'em coming.
Hack: are you seriously saying Angus had been a baby face? With that fizzog?
I think we identified Haggetty as one of the ultimate professionals, completely without ego, just there to do the job. Great approach, clearly had all the work he needed over his ten years. Bob Kirkwood, John Kowalski. Not an enormous group.
I noticed on the Altrincham poster, the prices were in new money and old money. The dearest seats being 50p or 10 bob. I haven't noticed this before. A real bargain though.
Re your question on the other thread (Geoff Portz) about posts being out of order there's an example above. I made two consecutive comments, Main Mask replied to my first comment by using the Reply button. So his comment (nearly 2 hours after my second comment) attached itself to the first and appears out of chronological order. Clever things these computers, eh?
Goodness, a year since Wayne Bridges died. We shouldn't have missed that one, but it just doesn't seem that long ago. In this weird year it's become difficult to measure time. It was Dicky Swales funeral just a few weeks earlier and that seems ages ago.
Kendo v Angus. What a great thought. By then Angus was well established as a villain so the appetite would be whetted. For once I'm envious Main Mask. But what happened to the girlfriend?
@adrianpollard.shangri-la I attended several shows at The Stamford Hall, Altrincham. I recall seeing Kendo Nagasaki versus Wild Angus at the King's Hall, Belle Vue, and it was an excellent contest. It was a Crabtree show and they were competing for a bag of money suspended over the ring which Angus won. He opened it up and generously threw some fivers into the crowd.
The Altrincham bill looks good. I only saw Mike Powers once. It was at Belle Vue and he was opposing Billy Howes. Of course, Roy Paul went on to become a Skinhead and Johnny Locke moved to Rhyl to work primarily for Orig Williams where, due to a facial resemblance, he changed his name to Johnny Palance. It was under this name that I refereed him against Kung Fu (Hamil) for Bobby Barron at the two Prestatyn Pontin's camps and watched him on many occasions at Rhyl's Town Hall where, amongst others, I saw him in combat with Jackie "Mr.TV" Pallo and Adrian Street. Long before Hamil's Kung Fu days, I recall him featuring for Orig at the Town Hall against Palance in a most entertaining tag match. Hamil was partnered by a young Steve Taylor (then wrestling as Steve Mc.Cormack) and Palance by "Romeo" Joe Critchley. Priceless!
Working overseas today, two for the price of one!, the great Billy Robinson beat big Pat Roach for the IWE promotion in Tokyo, Japan, on this day back in 1971.
Hi MM Love your posters, even if I haven't heard of some of the lowercards..
Billy Howes Mid -Heavy weight champion, not Heavyweight.
Wrestling at its very best. Truly Golden Age stuff.
A real old one

Just noticed the Stamford Hall question from MM.

Mr and Mrs Rogers promoting.
Thank you. I seem to be appreciated more 34 years after my last promotion than I was at the time!

Main Mask , decimalisation was rather confusing. 50p sounds like peanuts but ten shillings sounds like a lot more money. I still have a ten bob note.

Thank you Hack.
That explains the "how", but not a lot about the "why"!
Surely it makes sense to follow a thread in chronological order.

What a shame , I think the Stamford Hall shut in 1972 if I am not mistaken.
Great memory. Main Mask. And Naggers still hadn't appeared on tv.
Also on this day in 2020 saw the sad passing of Wayne Bridges.
A few from Scotland
