Our own Tony Charles teamed with Andre the Giant, in a losing effort, against NWA (Los Angeles and Japan) Tag Team Champs, Antonio Inoki and Seiji Sakaguchi, in Londrina, Brazil, on this day in 1974.
It never ceases to amaze me how much globe trotting our lads did, and what a great life it must have been (if you like travelling, of course).
While not connected to "On this day", I have just come across some results from Latvia, in 1930, which include Sergei Orloff ("The Russian Bear") who we know was Cocky Chick Knight. Just wondering if this was really him, or did anyone else use that name? This (if correct) would be two years before his first known dates, which were (I think) in Budapest.
Seeing as Budapest, in 1932, is one of his early dates (wrestling overseas in his debut, rather than the UK), could it be him in Latvia, two years earlier?
Also found results for Clem Lawrence and George Clark in South Africa in 1936.
As I always say (if you like travelling), what a life!!
Just a reminder to everyone that daily wrestling anniversaries are now posted on the website, three births and three deaths today.
