What a powerful man. Big Pat would have been 82 years old today. I always enjoyed watching him, but there always seemed a bit of love missing from many fans. Why was that?
Pat was great but really it was all about having either a pretty face, a gimmick or just being a real villain. Pat was somewhere in between, same with the likes of Pete Roberts, Ray Steele, Johnny Wilson ect. All great wrestlers but just lacking that little something else to make you either love em or hate em.
How did Pat fit Wrestling around his film work? Were there times when he had a long Hiatus? This could explain why some felt Lukewarm, if he didn't have time to build up a feud in a run of shows.
I think it is a generation thing. For those who watched mid sixties to mid seventies , my own opinion for his lukewarm popularity is because he was younger than Wall, Davies , Portz , Robinson , Elrington and quite a lot more of genuine heavies.
Consequently he was made to wait before the promoters would let him have a very good streak of results.
I don't like to see a big guy who is genuinely tough have to sell so much.
In my opinion is was crazy to wait to the 1980's for Pat to become champ.

which belt they used for P. Roach when he was British Hwt Champ? For Haystacks and D. Singh they used old 1909 Relwyskow Belt.

Likewise Wayne Bridges had to endure a 15-year apprenticeship.
