Following On from ANGLO's 'Fascination' to see PETER PRESTON Working for DALE MARTIN's in
1970-I thought I'd look into his Billings for the Years 1968-1971!
After the now Infamous MCMANUS Bout Result-it was First thought that PRESTON was 'Black Balled'
for Seemingly trying to Pin MICK for the Winning Fall against Orders!!
However-as We can see-Other JOINT Promoters such as MORRELL and RELWYSKOW continues
to use him with Regular Work!!
It now also Seems that by 1970 his 'Exile Punishment' from DALES had Expired!!
SOUTHAMPTON-it Appears was a Frequent Venue for PRESTON in 1970 and 1971-See Below My
Original Programmes!
But for 1968 and 1969 he was Appearing Often in Places like HULL-NEWCASTLE and LEICESTER
even!!
Below We can Look at PETER PRESTON Facing Such Opponents as GEORGE KIDD and ACHMED
THE STRONG!!- And also Tagging with ALAN COLBECK in THE MASTERS Team!!
MAIN MASK
Apparently Bert and Vic were sharing the British Heavy-Middleweight title at one point 😂 Would the Alan Kelly with Mike Eagers be an early appearance of Alan Kilby?
Bernard Bradford and Johnny Rainbow are new ones on me.
Of course there was no secret to Peter Preston working for Northern Joint members following the win over McManus. Why should there be? After all, Morrell had made the suggestion to him and looked after him to follow. His giant killing streak was all over the northern promoters with wins over Pallo, Kidd, and Logan. Nationwide his new status was unveiled with straight falls wins on tv against Ezzard Hart and the Wild Man of Borneo and a win over Soulis Tsickrikas.
When Anglo Italian and I visited Peter Preston he told us the first time he met up with McManus following the double cross was a show at Leicester. I can't find the two of them together at Leicester until March 1970,
Earlier than that they did share the same bill following the double cross
20 Feb 1969 PAISLEY
13 jAN 1970 HUDDERSFIELD
03 Feb 1970 DUNDEE
This would give time for words to be spoken before his return to Dale Martin in 1970, which looks to have been more extensive than thought.
His post McManus streak and what his version of the McManus double cross are on Heritage
Thanks Ron, this is the appropriate focus. Just six showings. Very very strange - either he was in or he was out. But he appears to have been out with brief appearances on parole. Maybe he was a recidivist?
My fascination is with Dale Martin bookings as per Ron's finds. Just a few so far. We have explored and published extensively his giant-slayer period for the other JP members.
Let's be clear about my fascination. How did he get these Dale Martin bookings? They go against everything we have taken as Gospel until now.
His inclusion in the Who's Who and mention of his defeat of McManus would have been opposed by McManus for sure. So we can gauge Morrell's power within JP and over DM.
These are the revelations that still manage to excite me over 50 years on.
