'Peter Slapper would've been Piet Slabbert most likely.'
'Yes, agree Pete Slapper would have been Piet Slabbert. When I was young his was a name that intrigued me, though I never saw him'.
Hi Ost and Hack. Above are your comments from last year. I'm wondering if there is any evidence that Piet was actually Mr Slapper, as I've noticed that not only is Slabbert a fairly common name in South Africa, but there seems to be a link to a Piet Slabbert wrestling in South Africa.
(The Herald, South Africa) v Carl Vermeulen; Piet Slabbert v Bryan Pinnel; Piet Minnie v Robert McGregor ;
It could be that a wrestling Brit, unknown to Heritage, went to South Africa, posing as a native son, but it's a long stretch? Do you concur?😎
I've just found this conversation and can tell you that Piet Slabber was my father. He also wrestled as "bomber". He was born in South Africa. He wrestled in England and South Africa. Settled in RSA in approximately 1965 and passed away 1979. I have lots of programs and posters with his name on.
As has become the case here recently, no, non,niet! So I'm proclaiming that Peter Slapper and Piet Slabbert are NOT the same person!
Are you back from the zoo yet John? Any further developments?
Off to a new local Sydney zoo, by the time I come back I would expect the case to be solved. The chase is afoot Watson!
Its time for Shelves sleuthing. In my case, as I said it was the name that intrigued me, it is just an assumption to make the link. Maybe there is more to uncover.
