Hello Claire, thanks for asking. As you can see there are people waiting to help, but as others have said we need a name and some information about this old photograph. Where he was from or any other bit of information, however tiny, would be helpful.
Hard to say Ruslan if we are looking at Music Hall era or a bit sooner , but would have thought after 1880. Other parts of the thread have been took off to consolidate it but Claire mentioned a claim that this guy was a Yorkshire man and invented catch.
He certainly did not invent it and if he was a Yorkshire man , I would imagine we might be looking at Saddleworth.
Ron, yes "no one invented Lancashire catch" just like no one invented Lancashire IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE...I made a post on this matter today. Yet if we are talking about the West Riding of Yorkshire, then I would say - Saddleworth all the way to Dewsbury-Batley areas...and yes of course BRADFORD.
Dear Claire, thanks so much for joining the Heritage Forum (it is the RIGHT place to address the inquiries when it comes to the history of British Wrestling). I will do my best to help you. I need more info re this photo and your great grandfather. There is a chance that Ron Historyo and I will be able to even find for you the name of the title he held (I am assuming it is represented by the trophy cup on this photo you have shared) and when/where it has happened. I will do my best.
As Adrian said, the forum will probably be able to help you, but we need more information. Please come back and answer some questions on family names and your GGranpa's wrestling name if you know it.
Can I suggest to the moderators that these 3 threads should be combined into one please?
