Love the Sutton poster: six weeks after D-Day but Lsd reigned withe the “new” money consigned to brackets.

Happy memories of butchers and greengrocers defiantly having nothing to do with decimalisation. At the weekend I was required to explain why Centigrade is used for cold weather but when it’s warm, Fahrenheit is used, as last week’s sweltering 64F.

That's an all-in post there Mr Main Mask. Whilst what you say about Rocco's fitness and Bert's age it's a huge jump to "ROYAL didn't Like Wrestling ROCCO." These were two professionals. If Rocco intended to injure opponents in the way you suggest he would not have many bookings.

LIGHT-HEAVYWEIGHT Belt!

What I'm Saying is that Why should a Man in The Twilight of His Career even

RISK Injury against a Wrestler of ROCCO's Ring Tactics??-Just not Worth it!

An Interesting Comparison is I Have a Bout in My DVD Collection between

FIT FINLAY and JOHNNY SAINT!-DAVE gets the 1ST Fall with his Favourite

Reverse Back Drop Power Slam!- You Can See SAINT was Really Hurt!

So could FINLAY-and he Spent the Next 3/4 Minutes 'Arguing' with The Ref

while SAINT Recovered a bit!- Granted there is a Bigger Weight 'Disparity'

between These Two but The Risk to SAINT Fighting FINLAY was much Higher

of Getting Hurt!-Methinks NOT JOHNNY's Favourite Opponent!!

"Royal didn't like wrestling Rocco." Why? Two pros paid to do the job,

"It's well known" Where?

The match fans on the bus would be talking about would be Saint v Swasjic. These two would know each other well from their independent days. This would have been a breathtakingly fast match.

Second of All ROCCO Wrestled at 100 m.p.h.-BERT never did!

Third of All by 1976- ROYAL was getting 'Long in The Tooth'-ROCCO's Own Words!

Fourth of All ROCCO States that Only MARTY JONES and DYNAMITE KID could

'Keep-Up' with him at 100 m.p.h.for 8 Rounds...No Mention of ROYAL in This Group!

Fifth of All-ROCCO went in Very Hard for Every Round-Nearly All his Opponents

were not used to this-apart from the 2 Above and Later FIT FINLAY!

Sixth of All- Scientific Wrestlers like ROYAL were Certainly not Accustomed to Kicks

being PROPER Kicks and Slams being Real Slams-Knees to The Forehead being

Really Delivered Hard!

ROCCO was Warned with What he was doing-One Day an Opponent was going to

get Very Seriously Injured!!

I Can Vouch for These 'Heavy Blows' Myself having Seen ROCCO Live from My

Ringside Seat Many Times!-Wrestlers Like ROYAL didn't Want to have to Cope with

All This 'Intensity'!-After 1975 when MARK became ROLLERBALL-You won't find

Many ROCCO versus ROYAL Bouts at All!-Only the 3 Mentioned Above and KENDO

NAGASAKI weren't Worried about Facing him!!

Looking at the original post for 21st March, 1971. I can't imagine the fans of Derby being inspired by an ageing Bert Royal against Jon Cortez. Bert would have outweighed Jon by more than two stones and had a history to defend. Davies v Kirk would create a bit more interest but Gwyn would go home satisfied as everyone expected.

The match fans on the bus would be talking about would be Saint v Swasjic. These two would know each other well from their independent days. This would have been a breathtakingly fast match.

I would have paid my 13/- (first time I remember that price) for the two supporting matches.

Correction. I never paid ringside. I would have been in the 10/- seats. On a good day.

As for Hamilton we might look on it lovingly with hindsight. But at the time would Bert Royal v Mark Rocco look so good?
