Vassilios Mantopoulos has some excellent matches on You Tube thanks to the French Catch project.
I agree, a fascinating bill with Black Angus and Danny Lynch appealing at the time. All those heavyweights! A definite ex-Paul-Lincoln slant.
However, Nagasaki had already run through a few DM stalwarts in Kensington - Tibor and Viedor in preceding years.
Maybe it had to do with travel arrangements with Bull Davis and Angus giving the driver's gig to Heritage friend Ullah.
With so few DM regulars, Jack will have held sway as top dog in the dressing-room ...with Young Robby planted as spy to tell all.
Perhaps.
Thanks Main Mask. It's unlike you to be working Sundays. A good bill presented in an uninspiring way. Good but a bit of an oddity, though that's probably a case of looking at it through today's glasses. Don't get me wrong. I'd be among the first to hand over my 7/6. Okay, as it's 1969 I might be pushed to the 10/6. Pallo and M.... would attract me. Nothing to do with an alleged middleweight champion but just because Pallo was good value. Does seem like a Main Event from any Public Hall in the country though, hardly worthy of the Royal Albert Hall where Anglo Italian jangled his gold chain.
A visit of Kendo to the deep south would be worthy of investigation, but Dales don't want to waste one of their men in with this distrustful northerner so brought Bull Davis down from Manchester. Not that interesting really as the result would never be in doubt. Same with Tony Charles and Danny Lynch. No blood because this was a Dale Martin show, Charles outgunning Lynch was unbelievable, they wouldn't want their guy going down to this thug so a disqualification for Lynch looks the only possibility.
Hunter and Angus would interest me. Two proper heavies. Angus was my favourite at the time and in those days, never having seen him, I was unaware of all those negative comments others have made about Hunter.
Regan v Bridges. Pre Bridges going from carpenter to World champion this would have led me to asking for a discount on the ticket price.
Meru Ullah and Young Robby. Associating Meru with Wryton and Robby with DM I think this one would have enticed me at the time.
