Wish I’d been there to watch Joyce v Townsend. Would it have been on that visit when Frankie recorded his song “I’m the Greatest”, a record often played on Radio Luxembourg.
Also, was Keith Williams the real name of that tough middleweight Keith Martinelli? If so, I’m surprised at the defeat by Eric Cutler.
Main Mask brings us Digbeth, of which I have fond memories. The Sheik in 1979. Who would he be? I've limited knowledge of the Fishers but Kidd v Arthur seems an oddity, surely Arthur was much heavier? I think "Sensational Main Event" of Steele and Veidor tells us more about the state of wrestling than what could have been a reasonable supporting match. And Royal v Riley? Who was making this stuff up? Sadly Frank is right. Let's hope we've moved on.
I recall Kent Walton commentating on a Kwango bout and telling the humorous story of Kwango entering the hall wearing white gloves. When Kent questioned him about them Johnny supposedly confided to Kent that he had just been eating a choc ice and needed to see what he was doing.
Johnny ‘black’ Kwango. Irish Jackie. Well well, the master race has spoken. We really are reaping what was sawn and getting what we deserve now aren’t we. The tables have been turned on us and it’s no wonder being a straight white English male is now considered to be the lowest of the low. We really did behave like we were superior to everyone else didn’t we. Shame on that generation of racist bigots that went before me.
All these are real old stuff , I'd probably go to Belle Vue to see Assirati

Here's one more; Farmer Johnny Allan wins the World Mid-Heavyweight title from Mike Marino in Sheffield, 1961:
Here is a follow up poster to last week; same venue, still 1963 and Lord Bertie gets top billing:
The Sheik was Adnan El Kaissey aka Billy White Wolf
