This rather confirms the validity of Jules Kiki's Spanish origins, as per his billings:
I would still be interested to know where Tommy Kiki fits in. He's not on Indikator's list, but then neither is the name Jules. Maybe in the same way as Jules was a ring-name for Moses, Tommy was a professional name for one of the others? Of all these bookmakers, Tommy was the one who rose to greatest prominence, alongside (the) William Hill at Royal Ascot and all the important southern tracks. I remember he was a much slighter man than heavweight Jules. And where Jules had a pencil RAF moustache, Tommy's was a great drooping caterpillar.
Indikator, can your Jewish Roots source come forward in time to explore the offspring of David Mercado? Somehow Hack has made the link that David was Jules' father.
Would this be the family? If so, who is Isaac Kiki Mercado? http://www.whippfamily.co.uk/FH%20Website3/fam1698.html

THE MAIN MASK, as always cool stuff, thanks. Any mention of any belt holders in your 1940s rare collections?
A great topic that I have enjoyed reading. The info that can be found on this forum is incredible, and the kind help of it's members is beyond compare,Ron and MM are Top of the Bill
To this thread I say WOW, WOW and WOW again. Thank you to all involved!
Words of Wisdom Anglo and yet another great thread to help us endure the wretched Lockdown.
I must be getting old , I had forgotten about writing about Jules Kiki.
I had also forgotten that Kiki wrestled as The Black Owl (not to be confused with the Dark Owl) and was unmasked at Preston. They worked it so he submitted to a punishing arm lock by the Masked Red devil.
Here is that bill. I know Main Mask loves these masked tussles.
PS usually it has been angry wives who have put the wrestling collection on the tip. Now we have a step-dad. The victims all belong to the same noble brotherhood.
Well Scott,
There can't be many other areas on the internet where you would receive such generous input and research as you do here from Ron Historyo and Main Mask.
We have been commenting on dear Jules for many years, and the links above certainly recorded our combined comments at the time.
You can now come towards us and share comments about top bookmaker, Tommy Kiki. Do you know him?
As for the Mercado family in Hove, if we dig much deeper we'll probably find we are related!
However, as Main Mask has very kindly reminded above, yes, I met Jules many times at the point-to-points. Always an absolute gent. At the time, I had no idea he had been a wrestler, so putting it all together on here has been great fun. My father was friends with Tommy Kiki.
None of us saw Jules wrestle but thanks to the magic of the internet and stonking research from our friends above, we all love him.
Scott , I have just realized that we discussed Jules Kiki about five years ago and with some clues from members on here , I researched Jules Kiki's life and ancestry.
It can be read here https://www.wrestlingheritage.com/onthetrailofjuleskiki
Back to 1937
Jules Kiki had a big layoff and came back in the late 1950's
The newspapers reported that he had six years out of the game.
Here is a very late example. I think he promoted the show himself.
Great to have you on here Scott.
I can take you back to 1937 with a newspaper bill.
What an amazing memento to have Adrian. I'm Jules Ki-Ki's youngest son, unfortunately I never got to see him wrestle as he was 60 years old when I was born, so he had finished wrestling and was just doing stunt work in films. Thanks for the nice words you said about him he was a gentleman and a great dad, my hero! As a youngster I used to go with him and his brother ( Solly ) to the Point-to-Point races so maybe I saw you there.
I would love to have seen him wrestle as I understand he was a good showman and also pretty fast around the ring when he was younger, I don't suppose there is anywhere I can find any footage of him wrestling?
Thanks for posting this!
Thanks Main Mask for a truly fascinating programme. I wonder if the referee Len Sparks is a member of the fighting Fisher family? Charlie's son wrestled in the 1960's under the name Brian Sparks. The timekeeper G T Peeke may have transformed into the MC who Kent Walton one called the velvet voiced George Lawson-Peeke. And one of the seconds Young Carr- perhaps it was the famed referee Tiny Carr from Ilford multi-tasking. All wonderful !
Belated thanks Main Mask!
Yes, I should repeat that Jules Kiki is a favourite by virtue of the fact that I knew him as a bookmaker at point to point race meetings in the early seventies - the same inimitable moustache and Victor Mature look. His brother Tommy Kiki - pronounced like bye-bye - much more slight of frame, was one of the top bookmakers in Britain.
On what little I had to do with Jules, he seemed a proper gent.
Thanks Main Mask!
Hi Main Mask, any idea where the show was held? I didn't have this one in my files.
Percy Pitman was a big pal of McManus in and out of the ring. They started a haulage business together. He's in the A-Z.
Fantastic stuff you come up with and on the first page , Pitman , Lightbody and Sparks , I think were all wrestlers.
