More sad news to report I am afraid as we have today received word that Al Marshall has sadly passed away. All will be greatly missed. I know he was a great contributor to many sites. RIP Al.
Al was a really nice chap. Not the biggest name but very modest about his genuine contribution to British wrestling. Johnny Kincaid's comment about him being a friend to everyone is spot on, he didn't have a bad word to say about anyone. He's suffered various illnesses for years but it was still a shock to hear that he had died.
Red Boroco has just phoned me with the sad news of Al's passing.
I have known Al for over 30 years. When I was first starting Al introduced me to all the right people and gave me my first training, he was also a great adviser and publicist getting my pictures in the US mags much to the annoyance of some of the better known lads.
We spoke regular by phone and met up when we could, some of the lads called us Laurel and Hardy as you did not see one without the other.
I've borrowed this 1971 poster from Main Mask's Jack Dempsey topic.
The reason being that it states Jack Pye would referee one match.
The match refereed by Jack was the one between Dave Kaye and Al Marshall.
Al Marshall said having Jack Pye referee his match was the proudest moment of his career.

Had a chat with Al online once or twice, came across as a lovely bloke and quite a gentle soul. Sad news. RIP Al.
