In non TV matches titles changed hands with great regularity in the States as much as here.In the early years of World of Sport title matches did not appear on ITV to maintain the illusion they really were something special
Comes as only a small surprise , over the years I have found Kendo being beaten by Bartelli but not unmasking , Bartelli being beaten by Marino and not unmasking , and recently Carl Van Wurden versus The Green Asp. But that is why wrestling fascinates.
I wonder if this was a case of a non Tv bout in a venue where the reports never made it back to the mainstream....such things happened with other wrestlers; champions losing but back with the belt in bigger venues and in more high profile bouts ?
Billy did beat Verne of Feb 13th, 1974, but I don't see it listed as a title match. Either way, great that Verne swallowed his pride and allowed Billy a victory.
Thats interesting in the respect it reports Billy beating Gagne twice to win the win the AWA World title - in all the old magazines and the AWA documented online history there is no reference to this ever happening ? Was that widely documented or something that was kept under wraps ?
Whilst agreeing with Anglo results mean little (I wouldn't say nothing - the denote a place in the pecking order) I disagree with the rest of what he says. It was the listing of results that helped create the illusion and made us believe.

Poor old Ron, will never post another wrestling bill!
I’ll get me coat!
Hello dear John
Love your contributions but this represents everything that is abhorrent about the history of professional wrestling.
Mere recording of (phony, pre-meditated, arranged) results.
It means next to nothing.
Where is the report of the excitement of these nights?
That's what professional wrestling WAS all about.
Or do we believe these were legit titles won and lost.....? Hahah.
