Italy not wanting to be 'outdone' by other Countries also sent its fair share of its Best
Wrestling Talent to British Shores to try their chances against our Top Fighters!!
3 of these were:-
TONY NERO-known as the Prince'-this Tough Heavyweight came to Challenge in our
Rings in the early '60's and proved to be a real handful for Opponents!
His HOLLYWOOD LOOKS didn't hinder him in any way and he was Popular with the
Ladies!!
COMPTE DIADONE-a Brooding and Sullen Character also arrived and was Billed with
Aristocratic Credentials and as an Italian Champion in the mid-Heavy Ranks!
His was a bit of a DISDAINFUL Persona with a condescending air about him which got
the Crowds going - not to mention Opponents!!
ROBERTO RICETTI-a clean limbed skilful Fighter was Billed as European Champion
at his Weight-Wrestled barefoot and sported a peculiar pair of Tights-the legs of which
came down to just below knee level!-Over here in 1961-RICETTI certainly caused at
the very least caused consternation with the Crowd-but his Wrestling Ability more than
made up for his rather strange Appearance-although again his Italian Classic Looks did
him no harm either!!
Photos/Programmes to follow!!-
MAIN MASK
Tony Nero worked for the Capitol promotion (aka WWWF) in Washington DC / New York for many years.
Nice findings.
Compte Diadone would have been his name in France, but more likely Comte Diadone.
Italian (for Count) would be Conte Diadone.
None of which yields any results when googling. He sounds like a bit of an Alan Garfield, Lord of the Manor.
