Do you think it would have helped the business if the Big one had lost now and again, and a re-match arranged. Quinn,Haystacks, and Mal Kirk spring to mind as the likely suspects. What do you think?

Good question Bill. You know, and we all know, the answer.
I think if he'd lost a few bouts to Quinn and Stax in that late 70s/early 80s period, then it would have been better. What also didn't help was long-standing, rarely-defeated heels like McManus and Logan jobbing to him.
He did lose against Nagasaki. Not sure what would have been achieved by him losing the latter years pantomine matches and I guess the same argument could have been made for Nagasaki. Again mirroring other sport, an individual can show dominance over a long period ala Mike Tyson and trying to defeat the undefeated can be a real draw. Watching Haystacks post Daddy, it certainly would have added interest if he would have chalked up a few losses. His matches became very samey.

of course he should, it might have kept the heavyweight scene viable instead of almost every heavyweight lying down for him in ridiculous squash
Yes Bill, when a favourite goes down, often by foul means, a rematch usually pulls in the crowds.
