MAIN MASK
"World Wrestling Federation and Authority" seems like another false governing body was created, only for Leicester? Whatever works I guess.
I've written before about my adolescent bliss of discovering a Paul Lincoln poster for the DeMontfort hall when visiting my brother. The surprising thing is that when Lincoln was putting on these shows that Main Mask shares with us Jack Taylor was also putting on quality shows at the Granby Halls, another huge venue. Leicester in the mid 1960s would have been a great place for wrestling fans. Anyway, on with Main Mask's collection.
Starting with the Marino defence on 14th April, 1964.
Dave Larsen was on the first show I saw live. I was so excited when he went across to Joint, and disappointed when he went to France soon afterwards. If you read Heritage Dave, get in touch with us!
Mind you, a shilling for a programme. Blimey, I thought 6d was a rip off.
Nit a bad bill.
Well that's a bit of an understatement. Not quite all the Lincoln stable but a pretty good go. Saving the likes of Marino, Stedman, Mangotich and Kirkwood for the future.
The promise of more (and better) to come. The independents were good at that, but most failed to live up to the expectation on the night. Lincoln was an exception.
Not sure of the date of this one, but no later than 1964 with the Cortez brothers working for Lincoln
One thing that strikes me about Lincoln was that he was a real promoter, by which I mean he built up interest in future shows and evolved rivalries leading fans from one event in the story to the next. Joine Promotions and the rest of the independents were no match.
