In my quest for the origins and major players of Wryton Promotions,Ted Betley appears in various guises, notably producing lads like Steve Wright Tommy Billington etc all having a fast moving acrobatic style.Like Billy Howes Ted trained at a later date on the Isle of Man responsible for the lad who max christened Young Faulkner but went onto to become John Savage. What has surprised me was that Ted had a hand in promoting in South Lancs and it was indeed Ted not Beech that as Dr Death causes questions to be asked by Atherton udc at the near riot at the Formby halls, only the kinks had managed this not even the Beatles. It seems that a formal exclusive deal was done with Wryton to have first option of young talent.

Dear Friends, enjoy this article.
Ruslan regards Ted calling his tourney an open even at this late stage promoters called various tourney open was not unusual but in real terms weren't open. The info on grogan and Burke came as anecdotal and no photos were available.I have asked one or two regarding Steve's belt and have no definitive answer.Iv got a line of enquiry that may help with Beechs involvement in promotion in South Lancs my feeling he was not the main backer.

Paul, are you in touch with any of the old-timers to whom you could address this question.
- Where from Ted Betley got this trophy belt he used for Steve Wright in his short-lived promotion at Parr Hall, Warrington, Cheshire in 1971-1972. Thanks, R
Paul, in your WNA post you refer to: 'subject of belts presented to Burke of Tyldesley, Woods of Farnworth and a Grogan of Walkden', never seen any image of those wrestlers with the belts, do you have such photos. Would be happy to see them. Thanks.
Paul I left few messages for you in WNA belts thread please have a look whenever you have time would appreciate that a lot. Thanks.
Thanks Paul, I wonder why he called it British Open, and actually for about year and a half Steve Wright defended his title and belt Betley gave him regularly they even had a full list of title defenses I recall seeing it in newspaper (sadly don't have that clipping with me anymore).
Thanks for the pic Ruslan, sorry for late reply.Im drawing a blank on the Parr hall tourney origins feeling it very much localised although there appears to be similar set up at same time at nearby At Helens,if I find out more I'll include it in the origins of Wryton ,right now apart from Wright seems backing from Cheshire Bolton Atherton and Leigh plus the elusive Sandbach gym plus why the potteries personality's were to the fore,it's easier finding out who H is ,sorry Ruslan British TV reference there.

Hi Paul, thanks for sharing. Any ideas about the origin of this championship run by Betley at Parr Hall Warrington? By the way, I left for you some pics of the WNA Belt on that thread you started few weeks ago. Thanks, R
Thanks Paul, that's all very interesting and informative.
Thanks to Paul and everyone for the fascinating Wryton information.
I wish I had been around the wrestling scene in those days
Any and all Wryton talk appreciated from me. I have a Wryton produced photo album that I picked up a few month back, need to scan that in and add to the galleries (once they are working again).
Adrian your timing is superb very interesting,at the time if posting I had a former driver for Wryton telling me about the Leeds office where he took publicity photos to be processed. It transpired that the Wryton office was in fact joints office at kirkgate chambers Norman wouldn't be happy at that.
More of the photographics later and what a furore simple photos caused.
1978 kid asked about Marjorie's workshops which I missed so I'll clear that one it's all connected,Marjorie and husband had regular ringside seats at Bolton and Southport, they had shops in Bolton Atherton and more, they were noted in some Wryton correspondence as Wryton offices but we're in fact booking agencies, however the family were involved in promotion pre Wryton based in Atherton.
I digress back to Donny I visited a gym in Doncaster a few times and Wryton stationary was there including Butlins programmes ,I have a feeling the Wryton Butlin arrangement was overseen at Doncaster.im sure a coincidence for Mrs Booth to win,a tall willowy blonde handled ticketing at Doncaster was this our Wyn.
All this was going on when territory wars within Joint were starting ,Wryton wanted an associate members agreement,Norman didn't although he bypassed this is lime Grove and Dale Martin metropolitan wanted to promote at the free trade hall Manchester.Wright was as ambitious as Morell, his biggest wrestling promoters in the world publicity upset Les Martin.
Hi Hack,i think the connection is they were man wife. S for the connection with Wryton Prom. is she manageress for The Corn Exchange where the wrestling took place in Doncaster,
Kind regards,Ian P.
I wonder if there was a connection between Wyn Booth and Doncaster wrestler Chic Booth?
Very interesting stuff. I often wondered about Ted Betley. I only really know what the Dynamite Kid said about him in his autobiography. He seemed to turn out some very good wrestlers (Steve Wright, Davey Smith, Dynamite Kid, Johnny Smith/Hindley/Savage), which others?, does anyone know?
All of them had a very smooth, fluid style, which was very athletic.
