The 2 Ghouls
I have previously written about Jack Cunningham and Wimbledon Palais, and what annoyed me most on that trip when I was about 16, was the fact that Jack and his mate said that they knew who The Ghoul was but wouldn't tell me.
During the years ,when something triggered me to think about him, I often wondered how 2 gentlemen from London would know about The Ghoul who beat all the opposition in my North East corner of England.
It's only now, thinking about it 70 plus years later, armed with all of this Wrestling Heritage knowledge, That I have realized that they were talking of Bill Coverdale, the South's poor answer to my Ghoul.
Oh Well, you live and learn
In 1955 I must have seen Coverdale at Wimbledon and he was awful.
Never too old Bernard. Even Anglo Italian has learnt a few things here. I think Coverdale wrestled as the Ghoul only after Bates retired, and Coverdale did wrestle in the north too. You were fortunate to see Bates as the Ghoul Bernard.
