We are not talking John Naylor, the tremendous wrestling many of us remember, but go back to the original Golden Ace. He was a wrestler from Leesds, Laurence Chappell, and we've added a tribute page to him
Anglo they didn't Golden ace was Max crabtrees attempt to rebrand the existing workers to make it appear new fresh names coming into the game needless in the case of Alan and John both superb workers. see Johnny gurka Ali the wicked etc then view posters showing American masked men and french stars. when he took over the stable was still good then he recruited by weight and guilability
Are you saying Naylor as Golden Ace was 100% coincidental? I'd find that hard to believe. If the original was so good he would have been discussed through the fifties and sixties and then revived in the seventies.
no Anglo just the opposite Max used names from a bygone era, he had a penchant for using old time boxers names as well ,all to convince that he was revitalising the game with new stars
It never ceases to amaze me how many of our favourites like Naylor lifted nicknames from wrestlers of the 30s and 40s. Last week I noticed an original Chicago Express in the 1940s. Tiger Woods, Wonder Boy ... so many of them.
