Knowing you all love a quirky quiz and everyone knows who Admiral Mountevans was. What about Major T H Staines formerly Royal Artilery what part did he have in wrestling were talking joint promotions.
I'm sure the guy in the picture is the Arthur askey lookalike who I met at Belle Vue. I wrongly assumed he was someone from granada TV ,as Pat phoenix said in conversation we will soon have the same bosses
Oh how I wished the northern monkey as old jack called me had pressed, but Charlie fisher was great at keeping stun ,Pallo was trying to wind up Charlie saying the major would have sorted it ,it's his money charlie
Well we are certainly missing out on something, or rather someone, here. When the Duke of Edinburgh rolled up at the Royal Albert Hall look who was standing next to Johnny Dale.
Hi Hack,I indeed had missed this, however I can't add much as I say it was old Jack being flippant it was like an in joke that Charlie Fisher didn't appreciate.Pallo was noted for disregarding other people's opinions,he was a maverick the cocky personna was no act but I found him likable. He loved deflating egos hence the run ins with Mike Judd.I was hopeing someone would know who the major was but I guess very much like Wryton there were lots of people either working for or backing behind the scenes.Morrells chain of command was transparent and rigid.
Hi bkendo1. I was there all through the build up to the formation of Joint Promotions, but the name of Major T H Staines was never mentioned at Newcastle as far as I am aware.
If he was involved in the making of JP, then I presume that it must have been on the DM side.
Well done Ron and Hack thats unbelievable.now heres why i posed the question,at Margate one summer evening there was a problem seating and some obstruction.Charlie Fisher was trying to sort and Pallo said get the galloping major to sort it.i said whos that and got daggers from Charlie Fisher ,Pallo said major Staines Royal artillery .To me this sounded like a Monty Python name and i tried to get more info off Charlie but i got the impression that he thought this cocky northerner was too nose.seeing that business card i see the night time number is Eltham,i wonder. This seems similar to the Pam Edwards mystery was Major Staines an alias.
Hi Paul , he seems to have been a front man for Dale Martins. Not sure if he promoted or not , but certainly some sort of spokesman for them. Can only see a reference to him holding shows on the south Coast. I am talking early as well circa 1950. If you came across him he must have been about for a long time.
Wonder if he had a role in pulling the alliance together. Was Joint 1952.
I found this from 1955 and Major Tom is down as a judge at the Albert Hall.
I guess this makes him one of the top wrestling judges in the UK!
Also makes me wonder what WHIPS were? Maybe they ushered the wrestlers to the ring? Quite a walk around the corridor at the RAH.

Maybe you missed the new information on the Major bkendo. I wondered if you knew any more about him.

Well, it seems he did exist bkendo1 and was not an alias.
I think our man has been found.
Here we have Major T.H. Staines retiring, with the last paragraph linking him to wrestling.
A few months later he's involved with Dale Martin ands here he is as timekeeper at Eastbourne in November 1949.
Then the Worthing Herald of 29th September, 1950 previews Dale Martin's first show in Worthing and refers totheir representative, Major T.H. Staines.
What more do you know bkendo1?
I was wracking my brains, Bernard, the name rings a very faint bell, but I just don't know.
