John Shelvey has been a friend and contributor to Wrestling Heritage since the very beginning. This week we begin serialisation of John’s journey from the UK to Australia. In the Memories section read
My Wrestling Journeys - The Travels of Our Man From Down Under
What, No Wrestling in Australia?
Part 3 of The Travels of Our Man from Down Under
I agree with the comments above. Just one gripe. I would like a new episode every week.
I also am enjoying the series , so well written John....many thanks
It's great the way John conveys the excitement of those times, small details we might otherwise have forgotten. We were so lucky fulfillingly to be able to discover, uncover wrestling information. Nowadays all information seems to be readily available at the click of a keyboard.
The disappearance of Mrs Frikki clearly had young John's mind quite rightly doing overtime....So formative being an inquisitive and untrusting wrestling fan.
I loved the description of Brighton sea-front and, in my mind, joined in "green" Jackie Pallo's train of followers. Sometimes we question Pallo's in-ring ability (thought he was good when he wanted to be). But John's account reminds us that here was a man living out his Mr TV role seemingly 24 hours a day. A walking publicity machine for that night's show. He desrved his glory.
And of course: two glowing reports of the delightfully described "music hall villain" that was Alan Garfield.
Many thanks, O.B.E. Great fun.
Part 2 launched today. This boy is good. Thanks John for your entertaining story. Our new Clive James?
I thoroughly enjoyed part 1 of John's series. Thank you John. I'm looking forward to the rest.
John Shelvey is an entertaining writer. This is a great start to a series of John's exploits. Lots of smiles included. Thanks John.
