This was 1964, just when the Dale Martin/Lincoln feud was at its height.

I still maintain this Hitler v Abbey bout is very significant but cannot pin down the whys and wherefores.

Let's explore Johnny Abbey. Who was he? Is this Johnny Dale of the pencil moustache and clipped pronunciation? Or maybe it is indeed Jack Dale. For some reason coming out of retirement to wrestle an old geezer he had worked with 25 - 30 years earlier. A bet? Just for fun?

But none of it makes sense on a Lincoln bill.

And then to say they are both newcomers - you couldn't then have two wrinklies turn up.

I'd really love to know.

That little mention of Johnny Abbey is actually disappointing. But intriguing that it implies Hans Hitler is a newbie, when we know he was a veteran by then.

I disagree with The Ost, not clear at all that they hadn't settled on the wrestlers. It is in any case a bonus match, so nobody could claim they were short-changed.

This probably stems from Johnny Abbey being reported in the press as having made despicable comments about Paul Lincoln Promotions. Always important to consider the historical time-frame. I could imagine Mr Wrestling appearing in the ring as a clown of some kind. A novelty match for sure.

It is absolutely fascinating. Main Mask, you have the whole programme. Lincoln programmes usually have a write up about each bout. What can you share with us, please?

Occasionally I find funny names like these on an old bill. I presume they hadn't finalised the last match, so the promoters created some names for the promotional material that gave themselves a laugh.

Yeah, Johnny Abbey really sticks out. What on earth was Paul Lincoln up to there?

And with an opponent of John Abbey Paul Lincoln showing he had a sense of humour.
