A while ago Banger did state on another site that he had faced both Tony St. Clair and Wayne Bridges when both were respective champions but not whether he had wrestled them for the titles. I would have liked to have seen those contests, especially if Banger wrestled to his ability and not his usual heel style.
I would have liked to have seen Terry Rudge hold a title, great wrestler, uncompromising attitude in the ring, a human pitbull. I also would have liked to have seen Johnny Kincaid hold the British Heavyweight title for a while, i think he would have made a great champion. He was much like Rudge, unyielding, always gave 110%. In the lower weights besides Bobby Barnes i think John Naylor would have my vote.
No Hack, you have got the wrong man. Ron Johnson from West Hartlepool was a lesser heavyweight than Jackson. I hesitated before I added Much less powerful and aggresive.Ron Jackson was normally billed from Doncaster.
Sorry Bernard. The entries for Ron Johnson and Ron Jackson are different as they are two wrestlers.
The mistake made was that in my reply I wrote Johnson not Jackson. I had researched Ron Jackson and my answer referred to him.
Tibor and Zollie got the "naturalized" treatment whilst Czeslaw, Masambula, Kwango and Kumali seemingly remained ineligible for any championship. Though Kumali apparently won cups abroad.
I suppose you couldn't really become naturalized and still go around in your leopardskin, or keep shouting "Schweinhund!"
Solid heavyweight, good professional, but unspectacular.
Hack, what do you know about him.?
I have read the A-Z and no mention of a title fight.
By the way, when I met and talked to him on the way to Newcastle Central station, I found out that his current Public house was the Railway Arms in Thorne near Doncaster.
In latter day World of Sport, the best wrestlers not to hold titles I would say were Terry Rudge, Pete Roberts (OK he held the Mid heavy weight World title for a day or two...), Skull Murphy, Mike Bennet, King Ben, Tally Ho Kaye, Mick McMicheal and Kung Fu
Bruno won his title from Hayes in Portsmouth and Hayes was off to USA the next day.
It was the Championship(s) of Kent that intrigued me. Did Wayne Bridges ever ever win or defend or even lose that title? He leapt from Champion of Kent to Champion of the Worrrrrld almost overnight.
Charlie Fisher floated in and out of being a Light-Heavyweight Champion of Kent.
There were clearly no belts, so they didn't dare make any title contests.
Adding to Bill Benny , Giant Anaconda , and I wonder in later years if mal Kirk and Wild Angus ever had a shot. Come down in weight and I always thought Jack Fallon was a good wrestler. Did he ever fight for a title.
What sort of title? A prestigious Joint Promotions national title? Or a regional title like Bruno? But while his regional title had legacy what about Hussey and Bull Davis who just seemed to have had titles bestowed upon them BB (Before Bernard) ? Then there are regional title holders who got a title because they bought the belt themselves. And what is a headliner? Jimmy Savile made the headlines. And then when we've done our best in hours, weeks or years Ron will come along and disprove us. No I'm not being negative but without authentic records there's no satisfactory answer.
But what the heck. For a heavyweight I nominate my forever unsung hero, Harry Duval, who I reckon could match anyone but didn't get the breaks. Going down a stone or two what about Terry Rudge or Barry Douglas. Peter Preston comes to mind too. And then Al Marquette and Bill Connor.
I could mention Eddie Rose. But you were Jewish champion weren't you Eddie? Sorry Eddie. I'm just having a smile.
See what I mean Oppie. Good question. Nightmare answer.
One last thought. I don't think Eric Turner had a title tilt. But there might be a reason.
Bruno was, at one point, Southern Area Heavyweight Champion with a sash rather than a belt. Similarly, John Elijah was billed as Eastern Counties Heavyweight Champion at one point. How either gentleman came by their titles: that’s another story.
Hard to answer, because in the world of Professional Wrestling, it could be that a match was advertised on posters, as a title match, but if none of us have that poster, or attended in person, it would be impossible to say.
I don't recall Bruno Elrington competing for a heavy weight title, but am sure he must have.
Did Banger Walsh ever get a title shot?

Thanks for the explanation.

Look up Ron Jackson on the A-Z and all is fine.
Continue down the page and you come to Ron Johnson.
If you look up Ron Johnson you get the same page repeated.
This may have confused you Hack.

You could be on a winner there Bernard. Although Ron Johnson was around for years and worked with top men I can't see any title matches
Edited following Bernard's reply below: The comment above refers to Ron Jackson

From the 1950's, I'll try Ron Jackson.

I can't be bothered to try and find it but I think I once saw a champion of Rutland.
And I declare Eric Turner champion of Leyland
Or at least Broadfield estate.

I am going to pick one out from the past. Bill Benny.

That is going to involve a lot of historians in some head scratching!
In my day, someone like The Ghoul or The Black Angel, because I don't remember any masked man being allowed to fight for a title in those days.
But I guess that's cheating.
Can I suggest that if you think that you know of somebody, you check his tribute in the A-Z first.
