Dear Friends,
nothing gives me more pleasure than researching the East and South Lancashire folklore, the customs and traditions of local people, as I said before, me studying the history of Lancashire catch wrestling basically turned me into a hobby-folklorist of that particular region of England. Long story short - enjoy the read. Thanks, Russian Concussion.
Stockport is still a big centre for Professional Wrestling today
I don't think Leylanders are famous for anything. If you mean the town itself then it is world famous (or at least was) as the home of Leyland Motors, who exported lorries and buses all over the world. This was by far the biggest employer in the town when I was young. Other industries included Leyland Paints, a Bleachworks, Two Rubber Companies (it was a town never short of hot water bottles), and printing works. There was only one cotton mill remaining when I was born.
Just Leylanders.
What everyone else called us is another matter.
Hack, here's a question for you, what did the native residents of Leyland, Lancs call themselves among themselves?
