One of the Most Famous Wrestlers-A Man BERNARD saw Wrestle many times-
was JACK PYE!
Say his Name and you immediately Visualise a full-faced-solid almost stocky
Wrestler with his Black Mop of Curly Hair!!-A HARD Individual who gave NO
quarter and was not 'averse to bending the Rules'!
But he didn't always present this Appearance!-When he started out-apart from
Age-the Cut of his Gib was somewhat Different-almost unrecognisable from his
later Image-When he was Young!-Photos/Programmes to follow!
MAIN MASK
If you told us it was definitely Harry (which you did not Bernard) we wouldn't know (and very few others would). Another sign of our the gratitude we owe to Bernard and his immense knowledge and memories.
Re the video.
The man who came into the ring to help rescue Jack , from the back ,looked a bit like Harry.
I suppose it is impossible to say for sure if it could have been him.
A brilliant video which perfectly captures the atmosphere of the period. A young Jack Pye, almost unrecognisable, but already a very tough character indeed.
Hi All. I thought that I had cancelled that beginning of a post, because I suddenly realised that the scoring in team contests that I saw might not be the same and might confuse the issue.
In the team contests each wrestler fought against each wrestler on the opposing side, followed by a tag match between selected wrestlers from each side.
If ,as in this case, it was 2 people on each side, then there would be 5 matches.
A v C, B v D, then A v D and B v C. Then the tag match.
However in the team contests that I saw earlier, it was more complicated with sometimes 3 per side. Then we were told that each team had a captain and he selected his team member(s) for the 5 fights. I think that some of the earlier team matches did not have Tag as we know it, but 4 men in the ring at the same time.
Hi Ruslan. Re. your query to Hack. He may add more information later.
Each member of the team fought separate matches against
Just found a 1930's video of Jack Pye v Ben Sherman.
Much of it really crude 1930's portrayal of what they thought was "All in Wrestling"
Having said that , another great chance to catch a glimpse of the past.

Hack, it wasn't a tag team match, do you know how the team matches worked back in the 40s?
Results of the inaugural 1946 Wryton Belt Heavyweight Team Championship matches were as follows:
Conditions: 2 of 3 fights
1st match, Jan 16th, Benny & Hussey won 1-0
2nd match, Jan 30th, Jack & Harry Pyes equalized 1-1
3rd match, the final, Feb 13th, Jack & Harry Pyes won the trophy 2-1
Another one of young Jack:
In 1973, just after his ill advised comeback, I interviewed Jack Pye. The article was written and ready for publication when Jack said he'd changed his mind and didn't want it publishing. Very sad.
Thanks Dear Main Mask, appreciate. My research shows that it was the only belt (title) held by Pyes. They beat Hussey/MM Benny team in 3 long matches. It was the first major event of Wryton Promotions.
I believe season 45/46 was their first official season.
Dear Main Mask, do you have any images of Jack and Harry which were taken after they won the heavyweight team championship belt of Wryton Promotions, it was in Feb. 1946 at New Brighton Tower. I mean photos of them with the Wryton belt.
